NYERI, KENYA — Leon Major Malala, son of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, has announced his intention to vie for the Lurambi parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

The declaration was made on Saturday, April 11, during the launch of the DCP Youth League Nyeri Chapter, where Leon addressed a gathering of young supporters and outlined his political ambitions.

Framing his entry into politics as a call for generational change, Leon described his candidacy as a response to what he termed as governance and economic challenges facing the country.

“My decision to run is not about my father; it is about the state of our nation,” he said. “The youth cannot afford to sit on the sidelines any longer. We have the numbers, and it is time we used them to overhaul this system.”

He is set to challenge incumbent Lurambi MP Titus Khamala in what is expected to be a closely watched contest in Kakamega County.

Leon first gained national attention during protests linked to his father’s arrest, positioning himself as a youth mobilizer within the party’s growing support base.

His entry into the race comes amid increased political activity within the DCP, particularly in efforts to expand its youth wing across the country. Party leaders have welcomed his move, describing it as part of a broader strategy to nurture a new generation of leadership.

Leon urged young people to actively participate in governance, emphasizing the need for fresh ideas and accountability in public service.
