Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the ongoing upgrading to bitumen standards of the 55-kilometre Mto Mwagodi–Msau–Mbale–Wundanyi–Werugha–Mgange–Bura Junction A23 road will significantly boost the economy of Mwatate Constituency and parts of Wundanyi Constituency.

Speaking during an inspection tour in Msau, Mwatate Constituency, Taita Taveta County, the Deputy President said the key road project, valued at Sh2.1 billion, forms part of a broader Sh15.6 billion allocation for road construction across the county.

He described the funding as the largest investment in road infrastructure in the region since independence, noting that improved connectivity will stimulate trade, ease movement and open up agricultural and tourism potential.

“The Government will work with local leaders and residents to identify other roads to be prioritized for construction under the soon-to-be operationalised National Infrastructure Fund,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President inspected the ongoing works of the project, currently between Msau and Mwangea, and expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.

He was accompanied by Taita Taveta Woman Representative Haika Mizighi, MPs Peter Shake (Mwatate), John Bwire (Taveta) and Danson Mwashako, as well as MCAs and other local leaders.

The Government reiterated its commitment to enhancing infrastructure development in Taita Taveta County as part of its broader national transformation agenda.
