Kenyan Premier League leaders Gor Mahia have been dealt a major setback after their top scorer Felix Oluoch was ruled out for up to three months following knee surgery.

The forward, who has been instrumental for K’Ogalo this season, successfully underwent an operation to treat an osteochondral injury and a torn meniscus. According to the club’s medical team, Oluoch is expected to be sidelined until around the start of next season depending on how his recovery progresses.

Team doctor Brian Odongo confirmed the procedure and provided an update on the striker’s condition.

“Felix Oluoch successfully underwent knee surgery for an osteochondral injury and torn meniscus. He is stable and is expected to return to play in about 12 weeks depending on his rehabilitation progress and recovery milestones achieved,” said Odongo.

Oluoch has been a key figure for Gor Mahia this campaign, scoring seven goals to lead the club’s scoring charts. His absence now leaves a significant gap in the attacking department at a crucial stage of the season.

Head coach Charles Akonnor admitted the team will have to adjust quickly, especially with the transfer window currently closed. The responsibility of leading the attack is now expected to fall on striker Ebenezer Assifuah.

“Felix is now out and probably until next season. We are left with Ebenezer Assifuah as the main striker and we must manage him well so that we can navigate the remaining matches without a major setback,” Akonnor noted.

The coach also hinted that the club could strengthen the striking department once the transfer window opens again as they prepare for bigger challenges ahead.

Despite the injury setback, Gor Mahia remain in a strong position in the league standings. The club currently sits top of the table with 49 points, holding a six-point lead over rivals AFC Leopards.

Akonnor believes the team’s mental strength will be crucial as they push to maintain their lead and finish the season strongly.

“At this stage mental toughness is key. The players know what is required of them and the focus remains on winning matches,” he added.

Oluoch’s absence will undoubtedly test Gor Mahia’s squad depth, but the league leaders will hope their remaining attacking options can step up as the title race intensifies.
