Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined major government development projects in Tharaka Nithi County during an inspection tour aimed at updating residents on ongoing national programmes.

Speaking at Kaanwa Trading Centre in Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency, Kindiki revealed that infrastructure projects dominate the government’s agenda in the region. He noted that 412 kilometers of roads are set to cost KSh 21 billion, while the construction of the Nithi Bridge will require an additional KSh 7 billion. Rural electrification initiatives valued at KSh 1 billion are also underway.

The Deputy President further highlighted investments in housing and social infrastructure, stating that affordable housing, fresh produce markets, and student accommodation projects cumulatively worth KSh 7 billion are being implemented across the county. “These projects are aimed at improving livelihoods and opening up economic opportunities for our people,” he said.

On healthcare, Kindiki pointed out that Tharaka Nithi is among the top five counties in the registration of Taifa Care, the government’s Universal Health Care programme. “So far, 70 percent of residents here have enrolled, contributing to over 30.2 million Kenyans now registered under Taifa Care,” he noted.

He emphasized that the programme is designed to shield citizens from high medical costs that often force families into financial distress. “No Kenyan should have to sell property or depend on fundraisers to access healthcare,” he added.

The Deputy President also used the forum to engage residents through a public sensitization meeting, where he provided updates on key government programmes and encouraged community participation.

The event was attended by Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisiraeli, Woman Representative Susan Ngugi, Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene, Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki, and County Assembly Speaker John Mbabu, alongside other local leaders and residents.

Leaders present reaffirmed their commitment to supporting national development initiatives, noting that the projects will significantly transform infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth in the region.
