Five universities in Kenya have signed a new academic partnership with Danubius International University in Romania, in a move aimed at opening international education opportunities for Kenyan students.
The agreement establishes what has been described as East Africa’s first structured European Union academic corridor.
The partnership involves Amref International University, Strathmore University, Kabarak University, Moi University, and Pwani University, the agreements were signed between May twenty-eighth and June second this year, creating pathways for students to access EU-accredited master’s degree programmes and international research collaborations.
According to AspiraPath LLC founder Cynthia Kropac, the initiative seeks to connect African students with European academic opportunities, She has also noted that the programme will support student exchange, joint research, and the growth of future professionals who will contribute to Kenya’s development.
At the same time ,Danubius International University President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Steve O. Michael described the partnership as a collaboration built on mutual respect and shared goals.
He said Kenyan universities
are among the most dynamic institutions in Africa and that the programme would strengthen academic growth without affecting the independence of local universities.
Leaders from the participating universities also welcomed the partnership. Moi University Vice Chancellor Professor Kiplagat Kotut said the agreement would strengthen innovation, academic excellence, and global engagement.
Pwani University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Hilda Ongayo added that international partnerships help students gain global exposure and intercultural understanding.
The Kenya-Romania partnership comes at a time when African universities are seeking new ways to expand international opportunities, improve education financing, and strengthen global academic connections.
Organisers say the programme will help position Kenya as a key player in higher education collaboration between Africa and the European Union.
