Kenya has entered into a landmark partnership with Google aimed at transforming the country’s tourism sector through artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital marketing technologies.
The collaboration, announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife through the Magical Kenya “Origin of Wonder” platform, seeks to position Kenya as Africa’s leading AI-driven tourism destination by enhancing destination marketing, improving visitor experiences, and strengthening tourism planning through real-time data insights.
Speaking during the announcement, Rebecca Miano described the partnership as a major step in modernizing Kenya’s tourism industry and increasing the country’s competitiveness in the global travel market.
At the center of the initiative is the creation of a Tourism Pulse Data Hub powered by Google Cloud technology. The platform will provide real-time tourism intelligence, enabling policymakers and industry stakeholders to monitor visitor trends, analyze market behavior, and make data-driven decisions.
The partnership will also introduce a Gemini-powered AI travel planner capable of generating personalized travel itineraries based on visitors’ interests, travel preferences, and behavior. The tool is expected to help tourists discover customized experiences across Kenya’s wildlife parks, coastal attractions, cultural heritage sites, and adventure destinations.
Government officials say the AI-powered approach will allow Kenya to move beyond traditional tourism promotion by targeting potential travelers with precision digital marketing campaigns through Google Analytics and Google Ads. These campaigns will focus on key international markets and high-value travelers at the point when they begin planning trips.
The initiative also includes a strong digital skills component targeting youth and small tourism enterprises. Google’s training programs will equip young people and tourism-focused SMEs with specialized digital skills, while local curators will receive support to create and showcase tourism experiences using Kenya’s digital assets on Google Arts & Culture platforms.
Alex Okosi welcomed the collaboration, saying the partnership will empower Kenyan youth, strengthen tourism businesses, and help showcase Kenya’s unique attractions to a global audience.
The partnership follows recommendations by the Kenya Tourism Rebranding and Repositioning Taskforce, which called for increased adoption of digital technologies to strengthen Kenya’s position in the international tourism market. Officials believe the initiative could help increase tourist arrivals, boost sector earnings, create technology-enabled jobs, and establish a more resilient tourism economy.
Tourism remains one of Kenya’s leading foreign exchange earners, and the government is increasingly turning to innovation and emerging technologies to drive growth, improve competitiveness, and secure the sector’s long-term sustainability.
