Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital has enhanced its surgical and critical care capacity following the installation of modern medical equipment, as part of its ongoing transition toward Level 6A status.
The upgrade replaces aging machinery with integrated, state-of-the-art systems designed to improve efficiency, reduce equipment failure, and deliver better patient outcomes across key departments.
Among the major additions are advanced operating tables, modern surgical lighting systems, new anaesthesia machines, and electrosurgical units aimed at improving precision during procedures.
The hospital has also strengthened its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by installing infusion pumps and advanced patient monitoring systems, enabling seamless tracking of patients from the emergency unit through surgery and into critical care.
In addition, specialised surgical tools have been introduced to standardise procedures, a move expected to enhance patient safety and significantly reduce the risk of complications.
Hospital leadership says the improvements will increase the number of surgeries conducted, boost reliability of services, and expand access to specialised healthcare for patients across the region.
The developments mark a significant step in positioning the facility as a top-tier national referral centre capable of handling complex medical cases.
