The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has begun preparations for the upcoming Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise scheduled to start on March 30, 2026 across Kenya.

According to the Commission, a structured cascaded training model has been adopted to ensure election officials are well prepared for the registration exercise.

The process begins with the development of training materials by Master Trainers, followed by the Training of Trainers (ToTs) programme. This will then lead to cluster-level operational training for Registration Officers, Assistant Registration Officers and temporary registration officials who will oversee the voter registration process during the ECVR.

While officially opening the workshop on behalf of the IEBC Chairperson, Fahima Araphat Abdallah, the Vice Chairperson of the Commission, emphasized the importance of maintaining a people-centred approach in electoral processes.

“The Commission’s processes must remain customer-centric to ensure the development of an accurate, inclusive and comprehensive register of voters, which forms the foundation of credible elections,” she said.

The Commission noted that the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration programme represents a shift from the traditional office-based voter registration to a decentralized ward-level outreach system.

Through the new approach, IEBC will deploy additional voter registration kits and recruit support staff including Voter Registration Assistants, Voter Registration Clerks and ICT Clerks to facilitate the exercise.

The initiative aims to bring voter registration services closer to communities, reduce access barriers and accelerate the registration of eligible voters across the country ahead of future elections.
