Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar Hassan has held a consultative meeting with Village Elders, Mabalozi wa Nyumba Kumi, community representatives and residents of Kisauni Sub-County as he continues his grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting brought together residents from different parts of Kisauni to discuss community concerns, civic participation and development priorities, with participants also raising issues surrounding public services and coordination between communities and government institutions.

A major focus of the meeting was voter registration and access to National Identity Cards. Hassan Omar urged residents who have not acquired identification documents to take advantage of available registration opportunities, noting that identification is important in accessing government services and participating in electoral processes.

He also encouraged eligible residents to register as voters, saying increased participation would give communities a stronger voice in determining their leadership and development priorities.

Hassan Omar further spoke about the national government’s development agenda under President William Ruto, highlighting areas such as infrastructure, economic opportunities, public services and investment. He said the Coast region has potential in tourism, trade, fisheries, transport, the blue economy and small-scale businesses.

The aspirant called for stronger grassroots networks across Kisauni and other parts of Mombasa, saying Village Elders and Mabalozi wa Nyumba Kumi have an important role in mobilising residents, sharing information, promoting peace and linking communities with government programmes.

He urged the grassroots leaders to continue engaging residents on issues including national identification, voter registration, education, healthcare, security, youth empowerment and economic development.

Hassan Omar also called for unity among Mombasa residents, urging them to avoid divisions based on political, ethnic or religious differences. He said cooperation between communities and leaders was necessary to address challenges facing the county.

Residents used the meeting to raise concerns over roads, drainage, security, youth unemployment, support for women and small businesses, as well as access to essential public services.

Hassan Omar said the concerns raised would continue to inform his engagements with community leaders and other stakeholders, while urging residents to take an active role in monitoring public projects and holding leaders accountable.

The meeting ended with a call for residents to acquire National Identity Cards, register as voters and participate in public affairs as the county prepares for the 2027 General Election.
