The Government of Kenya plans to open and operationalise the Mutyambua Campus of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and improve services at Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital in Makueni County. The projects are aimed at expanding access to healthcare services while also creating more opportunities for medical training in the region.
The plans were discussed during a public participation forum held under the Inua Jamii Mashinani initiative in Mutyambua. The meeting brought together local residents and government representatives to deliberate on development programmes designed to improve service delivery and enhance livelihoods within the community.
According to officials, the new KMTC campus will feature a tuition block with 10 classrooms as well as a hostel capable of accommodating up to 340 students. The facility is expected to increase training opportunities for health professionals and strengthen the healthcare workforce in the region.
At the same time, Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital is set to receive modern medical equipment through collaboration between the national and county governments under the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP).
Residents attending the meeting were also briefed on other development projects currently underway in the county. These include the Affordable Housing project in Wote, construction of modern markets in Wote and Kathonzweni, support for farmers through the subsidised fertiliser programme, and the ongoing construction of the Emali–Matiliku road.
The forum was attended by representatives from several government institutions, including officials from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, and the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
Officials from the Ministry of Health were also present, among them Adan Harakhe and the Chief Executive Officer of KMTC, Dr. Kelly Oluoch.
The initiatives are expected to significantly improve healthcare services and strengthen medical training opportunities in Makueni County, while also supporting broader development efforts in the region.
