The Government has issued an urgent advisory following the overflow of River Nyando at Ahero Bridge along the Kericho–Awasi–Kisumu road, leading to flooding of the highway and heightened risk for motorists.
In a statement released on Monday, authorities cautioned drivers against using the affected route, citing safety concerns due to rising water levels and reduced visibility, particularly during nighttime travel.
Motorists have been directed to use an alternative route via Timboroa–Lesos–Kapsabet–Chavakali–Kisumu as emergency response teams continue to monitor the situation and assess the extent of the damage.
Officials emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic guidelines and urged road users to remain vigilant as heavy rains continue to impact several parts of the country.
The incident comes amid ongoing heavy rainfall being experienced nationwide, with the Government maintaining high alert over potential flooding in vulnerable regions.
