OL KALOU, NYANDARUA – Chaos erupted during the burial ceremony of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho . after Senator John Methu’s microphone was switched off while he attempted to lecture National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah in the presence of President William Ruto.
The senator openly challenged the President over what he termed unfulfilled development promises, drawing mixed reactions from mourners at the emotionally charged event held at Captain Grounds.
Taking to the podium, Methu intensified his remarks, directing his criticism at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and the wider Kenya Kwanza administration, challenging their record on regional development.
At one point, organizers switched off his microphone as tensions threatened to escalate further. However, Methu continued speaking defiantly into the dead microphone, reportedly declaring, “Mimi sikuogopi” (I am not afraid of you), as murmurs spread through the crowd.
The incident turned the solemn occasion into a political flashpoint, reflecting rising tensions in the Mt. Kenya region, with rival political camps using the gathering to air grievances over governance and development priorities.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki were among the high-profile leaders in attendance, alongside President William Ruto, as the burial of the late Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho drew a large turnout of mourners and political figures.
Despite the brief disruption, order was eventually restored as religious leaders and organizers moved to calm the gathering and proceed with the final rites for the late legislator.
