The political tension was palpable in Nyandarua County on Wednesday during the memorial service of the late Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, where President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua came face to face for the first time since their dramatic fallout.

The emotionally charged moment unfolded in full view of mourners, with reports indicating that Gachagua directly confronted the President in a sharp exchange, at one point remarking, “You’re my brother but…” in what appeared to be a tense and unscripted political confrontation.

The memorial service, held in honour of the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, quickly turned into an unexpected stage for political undercurrents that have been building since Gachagua’s ouster.

Eyewitnesses described the moment as one of the most direct public encounters between the two since their fallout, drawing the attention of mourners and political observers.

In response to the charged atmosphere and remarks from Gachagua and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, President William Ruto struck a firm tone, saying he would respond to criticism through action rather than political rhetoric.

Speaking during the service, Ruto appeared to brush off the exchanges, insisting his focus remained on delivering development to Kenyans.

“Hawa wananiongelesha hapa kwa maneno, mimi nitawajibu wa vitendo,” the President said, a remark that drew murmurs from the crowd and was widely interpreted as a direct rebuttal.

He reiterated that his administration would not be distracted by political noise, adding that leadership would ultimately be judged by tangible results, not speeches at public gatherings.

Ruto further emphasized ongoing government projects across the country, stressing that development would continue regardless of political differences or personal attacks.

The memorial service for the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho briefly shifted from a solemn occasion to a politically charged moment, as leaders exchanged pointed remarks in front of mourners.
