The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a 15-year imprisonment sentence against Vincent Ngososei for the offence of manslaughter in connection with the death of former marathon athlete Samson Kandie.

The sentence was delivered by the High Court of Kenya in Eldoret, presided over by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, following a prosecution led by state counsel Sidi Kirenge.

The accused had initially been charged alongside two others with the murder of Kandie. However, he later entered into a plea bargain agreement with the State in which he admitted that he had been instructed by one of his co-accused persons, the wife of the deceased, to discipline Kandie over alleged infidelity.

According to the prosecution, evidence presented in court placed Ngososei at the deceased’s home between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the night of October 3, 2024. Kandie was later found severely assaulted, injuries that ultimately led to his death.

In a related development, Jamleck Morogit, who had also been charged in the case, entered into a separate plea bargain agreement with the State and was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to murder.

Under the terms of the agreements, both Ngososei and Morogit are expected to testify against their co-conspirator in the ongoing murder trial.

The case continues to draw public attention as prosecutors pursue justice in the killing of the former long-distance runner.
