DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Bongo Flava artist Ibraah has disclosed the behind-the-scenes efforts that led to his departure from Konde Music Worldwide, crediting Diamond Platnumz with playing a central role in securing his contractual freedom.
Speaking during an interview on Wasafi FM on Saturday, the artist explained that Diamond facilitated access to legal support that enabled him to exit what he described as a restrictive long-term agreement.
“Diamond helped me through the period I went through to get my music rights. He helped me get a lawyer and gave me some words of advice,” Ibraah said.
The singer clarified that the move was not intended to undermine his former label boss Harmonize, but rather to regain control of his career and intellectual property.
Contract Dispute and Resolution
The fallout between Ibraah and Konde Music Worldwide escalated in 2025, when an exit fee reportedly amounting to Tsh1 billion (approximately KSh 47 million) was demanded. The dispute drew the attention of BASATA, which intervened as tensions grew within the industry.
Following legal pressure and negotiations, the label eventually released Ibraah without financial conditions, granting him full ownership of his master recordings.
Transition to Independence
Since his departure, Ibraah has transitioned into an independent artist, launching a series of new projects aimed at expanding his reach across the African music market.
Among his recent releases are the singles “Mashiko” and “Washa,” both of which have gained traction across regional airwaves. He is also preparing to release a new extended play project titled “PM” later this year.
Despite resolving the contractual dispute, sources indicate that discussions regarding unpaid royalties from his final months under the label are ongoing.
