The People’s Assembly in Mombasa County has defended the Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Captain William Ruto, following allegations of irregularities in the recent recruitment exercise at the port.
Addressing the media, the Assembly’s Chairperson, Makani Pious, stated that the recruitment process was conducted in line with established procedures, ensuring transparency and equal opportunity for all applicants.
He maintained that the Authority does not practice ethnic bias in its hiring, emphasizing that employment opportunities at the port are open to all qualified Kenyans regardless of their background.
The Assembly’s Clerk also praised the Managing Director for his commitment to maintaining efficiency and professionalism in the port’s operations.
However, the Assembly pushed back against proposals to allocate 70 percent of jobs at the port to residents from the Coastal region. They argued that the port remains a national resource and should provide equal employment opportunities to citizens from across the country.
