Police in Kayole, Nairobi, have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of his 19-year-old girlfriend, who fell from the fifth floor of a residential apartment under circumstances that investigators are treating as suspicious.
The deceased, identified as Beraka Wambui, died after falling from the upper floor of the building where she had reportedly been with her boyfriend, Anthony Njoroge Njuguna, moments before the incident.
According to preliminary police investigations, the couple had been involved in a heated argument shortly before Wambui fell from the building. Detectives are now working to establish whether her death resulted from an accident, suicide or foul play.
The building’s caretaker told investigators that he rushed outside after hearing a loud bang, initially believing there had been an electrical fault. Upon reaching the ground floor, he found Wambui lying in a pool of blood with severe multiple injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene but pronounced the teenager dead on arrival due to the extent of her injuries.
Anthony Njoroge Njuguna was subsequently arrested and is being held in police custody as the prime suspect while detectives continue with investigations into the circumstances surrounding Wambui’s death.
Police have launched a comprehensive inquiry, including interviewing witnesses, collecting forensic evidence and reconstructing the events leading up to the fatal fall. Investigators are also examining whether there were previous reports of domestic disputes involving the couple.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home (formerly City Mortuary), where it awaits a post-mortem examination that is expected to establish the exact cause of death and provide further direction to investigators.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
