Bandari FC Names New Board of Trustees Amid Governance Changes

Kenyan top-flight side Bandari Football Club has named a new Board of Trustees as part of efforts to strengthen governance and strategic management at the club.

The Mombasa-based team made the changes after its previous board of trustees stepped down, leaving Tony Kibwana as the only remaining official in the club’s leadership structure.

Bandari FC, popularly known as “The Dockers” due to its close association with the port industry, competes in the FKF Premier League and remains one of the most prominent clubs in Kenya’s coastal region.

Founded in 1985, the club has enjoyed notable success over the years, including winning the FKF Cup 2019, and has frequently challenged for top positions in the league.

Proposed Board of Trustees

The newly named Board of Trustees includes leaders from different professional backgrounds and sectors. The patron position is held by the Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority, reflecting the longstanding partnership between the authority and the club.

List of members:

  • Patron: Managing Director, Kenya Ports Authority

  • Chairman: Said Mata

  • Vice Chairman: Dave Jones Buche

  • Secretary & Club CEO: Tony Kibwana

  • Treasurer: Peter Thuku

  • Trustee: Musa Hassan Musa

  • Trustee: John Miriti

  • Trustee: Cleopatra Taabu

  • Trustee: Gunda Kahenori

  • Trustee: Matreda Mwakireti

The appointment of Kibwana as both Secretary and CEO is expected to streamline the club’s administrative operations, while Treasurer Peter Thuku will oversee financial management.

The new trustees are expected to guide policy decisions, strengthen youth development programmes, and deepen community engagement as the club prepares for upcoming seasons. ⚽
