Amisi Backtracks on Breakaway Plans, Reaffirms Loyalty to Linda Mwananchi Movement

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has reversed his earlier position on forming a new political faction, reaffirming his commitment to the Linda Mwananchi movement amid growing speculation of internal divisions.

The legislator dismissed previous remarks hinting at a possible exit from the movement, describing the claims as “sideshows” and insisting that the group’s agenda remains bigger than individual interests. He maintained that he remains fully invested in the movement he says he helped build from the ground up.

Amisi had earlier signaled dissatisfaction with the direction of Linda Mwananchi, accusing it of drifting from its original ideological foundation. He particularly criticized attempts to align or merge with elements of the broader United Opposition, arguing that such a move would betray young supporters seeking a clear break from established political networks.

Tensions within the movement were further fueled after the MP was seen engaging with members linked to the newly formed Renaissance Party, prompting accusations from some insiders that he was being used to destabilize the group’s youth-driven wing ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the controversy, Amisi has remained firm on one key political position, insisting that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna remains the preferred presidential candidate for the movement. He warned that sidelining Sifuna in favour of veteran political figures could alienate young voters and weaken the movement’s support base.

The latest U-turn is expected to ease immediate tensions within Linda Mwananchi, though questions remain over deeper ideological disagreements and long-term cohesion within the coalition.
