Algeria has declared three days of national mourning following a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of at least 25 people and left 44 others seriously injured.
The tragedy occurred along National Road No. 24 at the El Kerma descent near the coastal town of Boumerdes, approximately 55 kilometres east of the capital, Algiers. The passenger bus was travelling from Setif to Algiers when it reportedly lost control, veered off the road and plunged into a steep ravine.
Emergency responders from the Algerian Civil Protection Department rushed to the scene, deploying three specialized rescue vehicles and eleven ambulances to recover victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb visited the crash site before proceeding to hospitals to check on survivors and offer condolences to the affected families.
The Algerian Presidency announced three days of national mourning as the country grieves one of its deadliest road accidents in recent years.
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the cause of the crash, while rescue and recovery efforts continue.
