The High Court has heard emotional testimony from the family of the late former Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were as the hearing into his murder continued.
The late legislator’s widow, Margaret Koriri, told the court that she last communicated with her husband on the morning of April 30, 2025, when he sent her money through M-Pesa before leaving for his day’s engagements.
Koriri testified that later that evening she received a distressing phone call from the MP’s private bodyguard informing her that her husband had been attacked.
In a key revelation before the court, the widow identified two of the suspects facing murder charges as individuals who lived approximately 600 metres from the family’s home.
She further testified that one of the accused had previously worked as her husband’s bodyguard for about a year before leaving the position.
The court also heard testimony from the late MP’s son, Kasipul MP Boyd Were, who said he had repeatedly cautioned his father about security threats against him.
According to Boyd Were, he had advised his father to vary his movements and avoid using his well-known black Toyota Land Cruiser V8, recommending instead that he travel in a white vehicle to make it more difficult for anyone monitoring his movements.
The prosecution also presented businessman Dennis Sewe as a witness. Sewe recounted the circumstances surrounding the arrest of one of the suspects, telling the court that heavily armed police officers raided a house in Nairobi’s Umoja Estate while they were watching a football match together.
The witness said officers arrested the suspect during the operation as investigations into the murder intensified.
The murder trial has been adjourned and will resume later this year, when the late MP’s driver is expected to testify and provide further details about the events leading up to the fatal attack.
