Venezuela Declares State of Emergency After Devastating Twin Earthquakes Kill Dozens and Trigger Massive National Response

Venezuela has been plunged into a national state of emergency following two powerful, back-to-back earthquakes that struck the country’s northern region on Wednesday evening, killing at least 32 people, injuring more than 700 others, and causing widespread destruction to buildings, roads, and critical infrastructure.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez declared the emergency shortly after the disaster, describing the seismic event as one of the most severe in recent years. She said all available national resources would be mobilized to support rescue operations, restore essential services, and prevent further loss of life as emergency teams continued searching through collapsed structures.

The rare double-earthquake sequence has left entire neighborhoods in ruins, with multi-story buildings collapsing in urban centers and infrastructure networks severely disrupted across several regions. Authorities warned that the death toll could still rise significantly as search and rescue teams
