The Governor of Taita-Taveta County, Andrew Mwadime, has announced that preparations are complete for the groundbreaking of a new 10,000-seater modern stadium scheduled for next Monday.

Governor Mwadime revealed that he held a consultative meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Defence Soipan Tuya and Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru, alongside the County Executive Committee Member for Sports Shadrack Mutungi, to finalize preparations for the project.

The stadium will be constructed at Vindo Show Ground, where the county government has allocated 16 acres of land for the development.

According to the governor, the facility will feature a CAF-standard football pitch, an eight-lane running track, VIP lounges, modern amenities, and seating capacity for 10,000 spectators.

“This historic project will become a major hub for sports development, youth empowerment, and talent nurturing in Taita Taveta,” Governor Mwadime said.

CS Tuya confirmed that local youth will be prioritized for employment opportunities during the construction phase, while materials sourced within the county will be used to stimulate the local economy.

The governor also noted that President William Samoei Ruto is expected to preside over the official groundbreaking ceremony during his visit to the county next week.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to significantly boost sports infrastructure in the region and provide a platform for nurturing local talent and hosting major sporting events.
