The 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit reaches its grand finale this weekend at the RFUEA Grounds on Ngong Road, Nairobi, with the Christie Sevens on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, set to determine the overall champion.
The battle has been reduced to a two-horse race between defending champions KCB Rugby and perennial rivals Kabras Sugar, with just six points separating the two sides heading into the decisive tournament.
KCB lead the standings on 98 points after winning the Prinsloo, Kabeberi and Embu Sevens, while Kabras sit second on 92 points following victories at the Dala and Driftwood Sevens. Menengai Oilers are third on 75 points and are already out of contention for the overall crown.
The mathematics give KCB the advantage, but Kabras still have a route to glory. KCB can strengthen their position significantly with a strong finish, while Kabras must win the Christie Sevens and hope KCB finish no higher than third to overturn the six-point deficit and claim the title.
Every match will therefore carry huge significance, from the pool stages to the quarter-finals and subsequent placement matches, with clubs fighting for valuable circuit points until the final whistle.
KCB and Kabras have already produced several thrilling encounters this season, including cup-final battles that have underlined the intensity of their rivalry. Their most recent meeting at the Embu Sevens saw KCB edge Kabras 12–10, adding another chapter to a contest that has become one of the defining storylines of the circuit.
KCB have been drawn in Pool A alongside hosts Kenya Harlequin, MMUST Rugby and Club Afrique, an invitational Pan-African side featuring players from Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Kabras will compete in Pool B alongside KU Blak Blad, NYS Spades and Mean Machine, who earned promotion after winning the Division Two championship.
Other established contenders in the tournament include Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, Daystar Falcons, Nondescripts and Mwamba, all looking to finish the season strongly and potentially disrupt the two leading contenders.
KCB, coached by Andrew Amonde, will be seeking to complete their campaign with another circuit title, while Kabras arrive knowing that only a near-perfect weekend can keep their championship hopes alive.
With the final circuit points up for grabs at the RFUEA Grounds, the Christie Sevens promises to deliver a dramatic conclusion to the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, with KCB six points away from retaining their crown and Kabras chasing one final opportunity to snatch it away.
