The second edition of the SISI NI DOLA Cup has officially been launched at the Mombasa Sports Club, with 24 teams from five counties across Kenya’s Coast region set to battle for top honours when the tournament kicks off next week.
The competition will feature teams from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River counties in a championship aimed at identifying and nurturing grassroots football talent while promoting unity, social cohesion and youth empowerment through sport.
Speaking during the launch, Dola Company’s Sports Director, Hassan Kipapa, said the tournament has continued to grow since its inaugural edition and remains committed to providing young footballers with an opportunity to showcase their abilities and advance their careers.
He noted that beyond competition, the tournament seeks to inspire young people, strengthen community ties and create pathways for talented players to be scouted by professional clubs.
“We want to give young players a platform to showcase their talent, develop their football careers and bring communities together through sport,” Kipapa said.
To raise the level of competition, organizers announced attractive prize money for the participating teams. The tournament champions will receive KSh 1 million, while the runners-up will pocket KSh 500,000. The third-placed team will earn KSh 250,000, with the fourth-placed side taking home KSh 100,000.
Mombasa County Chief Officer for Sports, Goshi Juma Ali, lauded the initiative and called on more private companies and organizations to invest in grassroots football by sponsoring local tournaments and clubs.
He said partnerships between the private sector and county governments are essential in developing sports infrastructure, nurturing talent and creating sustainable opportunities for young athletes across the country.
Ali added that increased investment in community football would not only improve the standard of the game but also provide a positive avenue for youth development and social transformation.
The tournament is expected to attract hundreds of football fans from across the Coast region while providing emerging players with a valuable platform to showcase their abilities before scouts, football clubs and other stakeholders in the sport.
Organizers expressed confidence that this year’s edition will build on the success of the inaugural tournament and further cement the SISI NI DOLA Cup as one of the region’s premier grassroots football competitions.
