Shabana FC have unveiled a comprehensive medical insurance package worth KSh10 million for their players following a new partnership with healthcare provider Oasis Hospital.
Under the agreement, Oasis Hospital will offer an annual medical insurance cover valued at KSh8.8 million for the club, which competes in the FKF Premier League. In addition, Shabana FC will receive KSh1.2 million in annual financial support, bringing the total value of the partnership to KSh10 million.
The insurance package will cater for routine medical check-ups, treatment, emergency care and overall health management for both players and the technical bench.
Club officials said the initiative is aimed at guaranteeing timely, professional and high-quality healthcare services, a move expected to safeguard player welfare and positively impact performance on the pitch.
Shabana FC Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama said the partnership is part of a broader strategy to build a strong and sustainable football institution.
“This programme is about protecting the health of our players, enhancing performance and raising professional standards within the club,” Kerama said.
The agreement, however, will be reviewed after three months to ensure accountability and effectiveness. Kerama noted that the review period will allow both parties to assess implementation, impact and make adjustments where necessary to strengthen the partnership.
With this move, Shabana FC joins a growing number of clubs and branches under the Football Kenya Federation that have established formal medical partnerships for their players. Previous arrangements include FKF Nairobi West’s collaboration with Luton Hospital, as well as Nairobi United’s deal with E-Plus Medical Services.
A 2019 report by People Sport revealed that despite club licensing requirements mandating medical insurance for players, only a few clubs had fully complied, with most relying solely on NHIF cards.
Shabana’s latest step is being viewed as a positive boost towards improving player welfare and elevating the overall standard and professionalism of football in Kenya.
