President William Ruto has extended a formal message of congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a historic milestone in India’s democratic history, marking him as the country’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Modi has now completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 4,398 days held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The milestone cements Modi’s position as one of the most enduring political leaders in modern democratic history.

In his message, President Ruto commended Modi’s leadership, noting the significance of sustained democratic mandates in strengthening institutional continuity and national development.

The record-breaking achievement comes just over a decade after Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014. Since then, he has secured three consecutive electoral mandates, becoming the first non-Congress leader in India to maintain uninterrupted control of government across multiple terms.

The milestone has also attracted global attention, with several world leaders including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issuing congratulatory messages recognizing India’s growing geopolitical and economic influence.

India’s extended leadership record is being widely interpreted as a reflection of its rising global profile, particularly within the Global South, where New Delhi continues to position itself as a key voice in trade, climate negotiations, and multilateral reforms.

Kenya and India have in recent years deepened bilateral cooperation across several strategic sectors, following President Ruto’s earlier state visit to New Delhi. The partnership has particularly expanded in digital infrastructure, healthcare innovation, and financial system reform.

In the digital space, Kenya’s Ministry of ICT has been working closely with Indian counterparts to adapt and integrate open-source technologies, particularly in digital identity systems and public financial management platforms.

Health cooperation between the two countries has also expanded, with growing collaboration in biotechnology, medical equipment supply chains, and vaccine production frameworks aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity.

Both nations have also aligned their positions on global financial reforms, advocating for restructuring of international financial systems to better reflect the needs of developing economies and improve equitable access to capital.

Officials say the strengthened partnership reflects a broader strategic shift in South-South cooperation, with Kenya and India increasingly working together to shape global economic and governance reforms.
