Ruth Odinga Warns ODM Against “Praise Politics,” Calls for Party Unity

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has issued a strong warning to political rivals and internal factions, insisting that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will not be reduced to a praise-singing outfit for any individual or coalition.

Speaking to party delegates in Kisumu on April 5, 2026, Odinga emphasized the need for the party to reclaim its identity as a firm defender of the people’s interests.

“ODM members are not going to sing praises to anybody. We are a party with a history of struggle and a vision for this country. We will not lose our voice in the name of political expediency,” she stated.

Her remarks come at a time when the party is undergoing internal reorganization following the leadership influence of Oburu Odinga. She urged members to remain vigilant and protect ODM strongholds from political competition, particularly from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“We must come out strongly as ODM and protect our zones. Our strongholds are not for sale, and they are not up for grabs,” she added.

Odinga also cautioned elected leaders within the party, warning that the era of automatic nominations based on loyalty is over. She said the party will prioritize candidates with proven performance and strong grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a move aimed at strengthening unity, she announced plans to dissolve internal pressure groups such as Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi, calling on members to merge into a single, cohesive party structure ahead of the upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC).

The statement underscores growing efforts within ODM to consolidate its base and redefine its political direction as the country edges closer to the next electoral cycle.
