Netherlands international midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has appeared to confirm that fellow Dutch star Denzel Dumfries is set to join Real Madrid from Inter Milan.

Speaking to reporters at the Netherlands national team training camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup, Reijnders revealed that players had already congratulated Dumfries on the move, suggesting the transfer is effectively complete despite the absence of an official announcement.

“Denzel Dumfries’ transfer to Real Madrid? Yes, we all congratulated him, it’s a big step for him and we’re very happy for him,” Reijnders said.

The comments add to growing indications that the Dutch right-back is on the verge of becoming a Real Madrid player. Reports indicate the Spanish giants have moved to activate the defender’s release clause, with the deal believed to be worth around €20 million. Dumfries has reportedly agreed personal terms and completed medical examinations in the Netherlands.

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman also appeared to acknowledge the transfer, stating that Dumfries had undergone medical tests while with the national team camp and deserved the opportunity, although he jokingly remarked that he would have preferred to see the defender join Barcelona.

Dumfries is widely viewed as the long-term successor to veteran right-back Dani Carvajal, whose departure has left a significant gap in Real Madrid’s defensive setup. The 30-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s most dynamic full-backs during his time in Milan, helping Inter win major domestic honours and compete at the highest level in European football.

Reports further suggest that incoming Real Madrid manager José Mourinho approved the move as part of the club’s summer rebuilding plans. Mourinho is said to value Dumfries’ experience, physicality and defensive reliability as he prepares for a new era at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Although the transfer appears to be finalized behind the scenes, Real Madrid have yet to make a formal announcement. The delay is reportedly linked to the club’s ongoing presidential election process, with an official unveiling expected once those proceedings conclude.

If completed, the signing would represent one of the first major moves of Real Madrid’s summer transfer window as the club seeks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
