Radio Africa Group has officially bid farewell to its long-serving chairman, Kiprono Kittony, during a celebratory ceremony held on June 25, 2026, marking the end of a defining chapter in the history of one of Kenya’s leading media conglomerates.
Kittony’s departure closes nearly three decades of influence at the company, where he played a central role in shaping its growth from a single-brand operation into a diversified multimedia powerhouse. He joined the board as a founding shareholder at the age of 34 and has since been credited with helping steer the organisation through periods of rapid expansion and intense industry competition.
Under his leadership, the company grew its portfolio to include some of Kenya’s most recognisable media brands, among them Kiss 100, Classic 105, Radio Jambo, Homeboyz Radio, and The Star newspaper. The expansion positioned Radio Africa Group as a dominant force in Kenya’s broadcasting and print media landscape.
During the farewell ceremony, Kittony reflected on the challenges faced by the organisation over the years, including periods of regulatory pressure and political tensions surrounding editorial independence. He noted that sustaining independent media operations required resilience and commitment to journalistic principles despite external constraints.
Although stepping down from the chairmanship, Kittony confirmed that he will remain closely associated with the company as a shareholder, adviser, and supporter, signalling continued engagement in its strategic direction.
His exit from the role comes as he shifts focus to other high-level leadership responsibilities across key sectors of the economy. Kittony currently serves as chairman of Kenya Airways, where he is overseeing restructuring efforts aimed at stabilising operations and attracting strategic investment.
He also continues to chair the Nairobi Securities Exchange through July 2026, maintaining an influential role in Kenya’s capital markets as the institution navigates evolving financial and regulatory dynamics.
Kittony’s departure from Radio Africa Group marks a leadership transition for the media house as it continues to operate in a rapidly changing media environment driven by digital transformation, shifting audience habits, and increased competition across platforms.
