Omollo Rejects Resignation Calls Over Political Violence Claims

NAIROBI, KENYA — Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has dismissed calls for his resignation over allegations linking him to recent incidents of political violence, insisting there is no evidence connecting him to the attacks.

Speaking during a local media interview, Omollo strongly denied claims tying him to the alleged assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi during a politically charged gathering, terming the accusations baseless and politically driven.

“The demands for my resignation are entirely politically motivated and are based on reckless public accusations rather than any verifiable facts,” Omollo said during the interview.

The Principal Secretary maintained that his office remains committed to safeguarding national security and ensuring law enforcement agencies operate professionally and without political bias.

Omollo accused sections of the political opposition of exploiting isolated security incidents to push political narratives and damage his reputation.

“Our responsibility is to uphold the rule of law and guarantee security for all Kenyans without favour or discrimination,” he said, adding that security agencies would continue handling all reported incidents objectively.

The remarks come amid growing political tensions over the handling of security during public gatherings, with opposition leaders demanding accountability following recent cases of violence targeting political figures.

Critics have called for reforms within the security sector and questioned the government’s response to politically linked violence, particularly following the incident involving Senator Osotsi.

However, Omollo defended the work of security agencies, warning political leaders against making unverified allegations that could inflame tensions or undermine public trust in law enforcement.

He reiterated that investigations into all incidents of political violence remain ongoing and urged leaders to allow due process to take its course.

The latest exchange highlights the widening political divide over accountability and public safety, as pressure mounts on the government to address concerns surrounding violence at political events.
