Oburu Oginga has been ratified as Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement during a Special Delegates Conference held at Jamhuri Showgrounds on March 27, 2026.
He succeeds his late brother, Raila Odinga, having served in an acting capacity since October 2025.
The development comes amid internal disagreements within the party, including concerns raised by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna over the leadership transition.
Key Leadership Changes
Godfrey Osotsi was removed as Deputy Party Leader after failing to secure delegate support.
Governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir were confirmed as Deputy Party Leaders, while Winnie Odinga is expected to fill an additional deputy position.
Ruth Odinga was ratified as Deputy National Organising Secretary, Gladys Wanga confirmed as National Chairperson, and Rosa Buyu appointed Secretary for Political Affairs.
Strategic Direction
The party also indicated a shift in its political strategy, signalling plans to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
Oburu Oginga has been mandated to lead discussions with the United Democratic Alliance on a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The restructuring marks a transition within ODM as the party reorganises its leadership and political direction following the death of Raila Odinga.
