KABARAK, NAKURU COUNTY — Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has outlined key government reforms and policy directions while addressing residents in Kabarak, Nakuru County, touching on infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and political conduct.

Dr. Mwaura conveyed condolences to the family of Captain William Ruto, Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority, following a recent accident involving his daughter.

He also criticized the conduct witnessed during a  funeral event in Ol Kalou, describing the behavior as unacceptable and a reflection of growing political intolerance.

“The office of the President must be respected at all times, regardless of political differences,” he said, stressing that public platforms should not be used for political confrontation.

He emphasized the need for leaders to show respect and sensitivity when attending burial ceremonies.

“It is important that leaders respect grieving families and allow funeral ceremonies to remain dignified and free from political contestation.”

On economic reforms, Dr. Mwaura highlighted measures under the 2026 Supplementary Appropriations framework, including the waiver of KSh 6.8 billion in the coffee sector and KSh 10 billion in the sugar sector, with initial allocations made to begin clearing the liabilities.

“These interventions are aimed at easing the burden on farmers and ensuring they benefit from ongoing sector reforms.”

In infrastructure, he noted progress in addressing pending road bills, stating that the backlog has been reduced significantly, with funds from the Road Maintenance Levy Fund supporting the improvement of approximately 6,000 kilometres of roads nationwide.

The spokesperson also outlined the government’s push toward energy diversification, including a KSh 45 billion programme to install solar power systems in schools across the country.

“If fully implemented, this initiative has the potential to significantly scale up clean energy generation.”

He further announced plans to commence groundwork for Kenya’s first nuclear power plant in Siaya County, projected to generate 2,000 megawatts upon completion.

On regional infrastructure, Dr. Mwaura confirmed that the World Bank has approved KSh 71 billion for the construction of the Isiolo–Mandera highway.

The project is expected to reduce travel time between Nairobi and Mandera County while opening up northern Kenya to trade and investment opportunities.

The address highlighted the government’s ongoing focus on economic recovery, infrastructure expansion, and energy transition as part of its broader national development agenda.
