Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has defended President William Ruto against criticism from opposition leaders, while also unveiling a new digital pensions system set to transform service delivery for retirees.
Responding to recent remarks by opposition figures, Mwaura dismissed claims that certain leaders are better suited to unite the country, noting that many of the critics are former government officials nostalgic about their time in power. He urged Kenyans to give the current administration more time to deliver on its agenda, stating that significant progress has already been made within a short period.
The spokesperson also called on leaders to support the Head of State, emphasizing the need for continuity in governance and collective responsibility in national development. He maintained that the President remains committed to fulfilling his promises and delivering results for citizens.
Mwaura highlighted key development projects, including the construction of a modern stadium in Wajir ahead of this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, as well as ongoing road, terminal, and runway projects aimed at opening up the region for economic growth.
On pension reforms, he announced the rollout of a new Information Management System that will benefit over 100,000 pensioners nationwide. The system, set to take effect on May 1, will be fully online, eliminating paperwork, reducing delays, and improving efficiency in pension administration.
He further noted that pensions will now be tax-free in a move aimed at encouraging a stronger savings culture among citizens, while projecting growth in national savings through the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), which is expected to reach one trillion shillings by December from the current 670 billion.
Mwaura also encouraged Kenyans to invest in post-retirement medical insurance to ensure access to quality healthcare after retirement.
