The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Social Protection has conducted inspection visits of Women Enterprise Fund projects in Mombasa County to assess how beneficiaries are utilizing the funds and to evaluate the impact of women-led economic empowerment initiatives.

Led by Chairperson Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a, the committee—accompanied by Women Enterprise Fund Chief Executive Officer Racheal Musyoki—visited several women groups in Changamwe Constituency, beginning with the Ladies of Faith Women Group.

The 15-member group has invested Women Enterprise Fund support into the production of a range of household and personal care products including multipurpose detergent, bleach, disinfectant, fabric softener, shampoo, shower gel, handwashing soap, and toilet cleaner.

While commending the group for its entrepreneurial progress, the committee urged members to strengthen product standards, improve packaging and labeling, and pursue Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certification to expand market access and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Members also encouraged the group to embrace modern marketing strategies, with Mombasa County Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed urging them to leverage digital platforms such as TikTok to expand their customer base and improve visibility.

The delegation later visited the G-Sisters Women Group, also in Changamwe, which runs a range of initiatives including detergent production, training programmes, water projects, and table banking. Individual members of the group have also established small businesses such as Mpesa outlets, salons, grocery shops, food vending services, and retail businesses.

Committee members praised the diversification of income-generating activities, noting that such models strengthen household resilience and community-level economic growth. They also called for increased sensitization on the Women Enterprise Fund to boost uptake and ensure more women benefit from the programme.

Speaking during the visit, Tana River Woman Representative Amina Dika urged more women to apply for the fund and utilize it effectively to promote self-reliance and community empowerment.

The committee emphasized the need for continued monitoring of funded projects to ensure accountability, sustainability, and measurable impact in advancing women’s economic empowerment across the country.
