Political activist Morara Kebaso has officially defected from the Inclusive National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party to the Jubilee Party, saying the move will strengthen his bid for the Borabu parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election while allowing him to actively campaign for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid.
Kebaso announced the political shift on Monday, describing it as a strategic decision aimed at working with like-minded leaders committed to national unity, accountability and good governance.
He said joining Jubilee aligns him with the party’s decision to endorse Dr. Matiang’i as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, adding that he believes the former Interior Cabinet Secretary possesses the leadership qualities needed to steer the country forward.
According to Kebaso, Matiang’i represents a brand of leadership focused on competence, integrity and service delivery rather than ethnic politics.
“My decision to join Jubilee is informed by the need to work with leaders who believe in issue-based politics. Dr. Fred Matiang’i offers a leadership vision that is not anchored on tribal interests but on performance and national transformation,” Kebaso said.
The activist also confirmed that he will seek to unseat Borabu Member of Parliament Patrick Osero, arguing that the constituency has lagged behind in development due to poor leadership and weak oversight of public resources.
He accused the incumbent legislator of failing to effectively represent residents in Parliament and questioned the management of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) resources in the constituency.
Kebaso claimed that bursary programmes have not adequately benefited deserving students and alleged that public funds meant for development projects have not been properly utilized.
He further accused Osero of maintaining a low profile in Parliament, saying constituents deserve a representative who actively participates in legislative debates and champions local development priorities.
“Our people deserve accountable leadership. Borabu has enormous potential, but years of poor leadership have slowed development. We need proper management of public resources and stronger representation in Parliament,” he said.
Kebaso’s announcement comes only days after he was involved in a dramatic confrontation during a burial ceremony in Nyansiongo, Nyamira County.
The event turned chaotic after Kebaso used his address to question the implementation of NG-CDF projects in Borabu and criticize the constituency’s leadership. His remarks sparked a heated exchange with supporters of the area MP, culminating in a physical confrontation involving security personnel stationed at the main dais.
Witnesses said the situation briefly escalated after firearms were drawn by members of the security team, forcing organizers to suspend the ceremony before calm was restored.
Despite the incident, Kebaso maintained that he would continue scrutinizing the use of public funds and advocating for transparency in constituency development projects.
His move to Jubilee comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election, with leaders across the country repositioning themselves through new alliances and party realignments.
Political analysts view Kebaso’s defection as part of the broader opposition reorganization taking shape ahead of the next polls, particularly following Jubilee’s endorsement of Dr. Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer. The development also sets the stage for what is expected to be a closely contested parliamentary race in Borabu Constituency as aspirants begin laying the groundwork for the 2027 elections.
