The race for automatic promotion to the FKF Premier League reaches a boiling point this afternoon as second-placed Mombasa United host third-placed 3K FC in a high-stakes National Super League showdown at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
The early 1:00 PM kick-off sets the stage for a dramatic afternoon of football, with both clubs separated by just two points near the top of the standings and everything to play for in the battle for promotion.
Mombasa United, currently tied on 71 points with league leaders Migori Youth, head into the clash knowing that victory on home turf would temporarily send them to the summit of the NSL table. However, the coastal side faces a dangerous challenge from Embu-based 3K FC, who sit closely behind on 69 points. A win for the visitors would see them leapfrog Mombasa United into the automatic promotion slots.
Tactically, the encounter pits Mombasa United’s solid home form against a sharp and clinical 3K FC attack, with the visitors boasting the league’s superior goal difference of +32 — a reflection of their attacking firepower throughout the campaign.
The early kick-off also places league leaders Migori Youth on high alert. By the time they host relegation-threatened MCF FC at the Green Stadium in Awendo at 3:00 PM, they will already know what result is needed to maintain or extend their lead at the top of the standings.
MCF FC, currently sitting 18th on the table, are equally desperate for points as they continue fighting for survival, making the Awendo encounter another potentially explosive fixture in the promotion and relegation race.
Elsewhere across the country, fourth-placed Equity Bank FC travel to Wang’uru Stadium to face Fortune Sacco FC as they attempt to keep their slim promotion hopes alive. Kibera Blackstars will host Nairobi City Stars at GEMS Cambridge in a mid-table clash, while struggling Vihiga United welcome Gucha Stars FC to the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, needing maximum points to escape the relegation zone. FC Talanta are also set to battle Nzoia Sugar FC at the Dandora Stadium in Nairobi.
With only a handful of matches remaining in the 2025/26 National Super League season, today’s results are expected to significantly reshape both the promotion race and the relegation battle.
