Mombasa Nominated Senator Miraji Abdillah has strongly condemned remarks attributed to the Ali Nuno, who reportedly directed police officers to shoot youths involved in criminal activities in the Coast region.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner with residents of Likoni, the senator said young people do not deserve to be killed and should instead be given opportunities to reform and change their behaviour.
“Not long ago, we heard the Coast Regional Police Coordinator speak about a shoot-to-kill order. Among all the leaders in the Coast region, I took a different position from what was said,” Abdillah stated. “I did not just oppose those remarks in words, but I am demonstrating through action that our children deserve the right to be given a second chance to change.”
The senator emphasized that addressing youth crime requires rehabilitation and social support rather than lethal force, warning that violence against young people would only worsen societal problems.
He further urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility in guiding their children and instilling strong moral values to prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
“Eliminating a generation is not a solution,” Abdillah said. “As we raise our children in our homes, we must understand that we are the ones who lay the foundation for their character in society.”
The remarks come amid growing debate over security operations in the Coast region and the balance between crime prevention and the protection of human rights.
