Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has dismissed comparisons between himself and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying his approach to politics and governance will be rooted in constitutional institutions rather than street demonstrations.
Speaking on today, during the launch of the Jubilee Party branch office in Ngomongo, Kirinyaga County, Matiang’i said his leadership philosophy is founded on discipline, effective public administration and adherence to the rule of law.
The former Interior CS, who has been endorsed by the Jubilee Party as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Election, said he has no intention of adopting methods traditionally associated with opposition politics, including organizing street protests or encouraging demonstrations that disrupt economic activities.
Matiang’i argued that while every Kenyan has a constitutional right to peaceful assembly and protest, national leadership should prioritize structured engagement, institutional accountability and lawful mechanisms for resolving political disputes.
He said he would instead challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration through evidence-based policy critiques, legal action where necessary and sustained grassroots mobilization aimed at presenting voters with an alternative vision for the country.
According to Matiang’i, meaningful political change should be pursued through constitutional processes rather than actions that may result in destruction of property, business losses or public disorder.
He maintained that his political track record has been built on administrative performance, implementation of government programmes and strengthening public institutions.
The former Cabinet Secretary said his campaign would focus on restoring efficiency in public service, improving service delivery, strengthening the economy and ensuring accountability within government institutions.
Matiang’i also dismissed suggestions that he intends to inherit or replicate the political style of any previous opposition leader.
He said every political era presents unique challenges that require different leadership approaches, adding that his campaign would be guided by his own experience in public administration rather than historical political strategies.
The Jubilee presidential hopeful reiterated that his focus remains on presenting practical policy alternatives to Kenyans through organized political engagement, issue-based campaigns and constitutional means.
He urged supporters to concentrate on building strong grassroots structures, recruiting party members and engaging voters on development issues as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.
Matiang’i has in recent weeks intensified political activities across several counties following his endorsement by the Jubilee Party, with the party continuing to establish and strengthen branch offices as part of its nationwide reorganization ahead of the next general election
