Detectives in Kitui County have arrested a man accused of killing his 68-year-old mother following a domestic dispute in Nyangalyo Village, Mbitini Location, Kisasi Sub-county.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, June 27, has shocked residents of the village, with police launching investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.

The deceased, identified as Musangi Maluku Mumbani, was found lying lifeless outside her house after neighbours and village elders responded to reports of a disturbance at the homestead.

According to preliminary investigations, the woman is believed to have been attacked during a heated domestic altercation involving her son. Detectives suspect the argument escalated into violence, culminating in the fatal assault.

Police officers who visited the scene established that the victim had allegedly been struck with a heavy stone. Although investigators did not observe extensive external bleeding or deep visible wounds on the body, they believe the force of the blunt object caused fatal internal injuries.

Crime scene personnel documented the scene and collected evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the homestead on foot in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.

Local administrators immediately mobilized residents and alerted officers from Kisasi Sub-county, prompting a manhunt that led to the suspect’s arrest a short time later.

The suspect is currently being held at a local police station as detectives finalize investigations before presenting him in court.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was transferred to the Kitui General Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact medical cause of death and provide additional forensic evidence for the case.

Police have not disclosed the exact nature of the domestic dispute that preceded the killing, saying investigations are ongoing and witnesses are being interviewed to reconstruct the events leading to the tragedy.

The incident has left residents of Nyangalyo Village in shock, with local leaders calling for peaceful conflict resolution within families and urging members of the public to seek mediation whenever domestic disagreements threaten to escalate into violence.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reviews the case.
