Elders from Timbwani Ward in Likoni Constituency, Mombasa County, have urged opposition leaders to stop attacking the government and instead present clear policies and development plans to the public.
Speaking during a meeting organised by Special Ward Representative Mwaka Bakari in Timbwani, the elders said politics of insults, hatred and tribalism would not help address the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
Led by their chairman Aboud Mohamed, the elders said wananchi need to hear practical development plans from leaders across the political divide rather than statements that could fuel division and tension within communities.
They also called on President William Ruto to continue implementing development projects while working closely with residents and local leaders to identify and address challenges affecting the area.
The elders further welcomed the government’s plan to provide a monthly Sh3,000 stipend to older persons, saying the support would help them meet their basic needs and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking during the meeting, Special Ward Representative Mwaka Bakari praised the elders for their contribution to maintaining peace and security in Likoni.
Bakari pledged to continue working with the elders regardless of their political affiliations, particularly as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
