The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened applications for the September 2026 intake into the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), inviting qualified candidates to apply for certificate and diploma programmes offered across the institution’s campuses nationwide.
The announcement marks the beginning of another admission cycle expected to attract thousands of students seeking careers in the healthcare sector, as demand for skilled medical professionals continues to grow across Kenya.
According to KUCCPS, applications for all pre-service programmes are now open and will remain accessible until August 11, 2026, after which the online application portal will be closed.
Prospective students have been urged to submit their applications well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical challenges and possible delays.
The placement agency clarified that all candidates applying for pre-service certificate and diploma programmes must complete their applications through the official KUCCPS Student Portal, where they can browse available courses, compare entry requirements and select their preferred KMTC campuses.
KUCCPS further explained that healthcare professionals seeking to advance their qualifications through in-service or upgrading programmes will not use the KUCCPS platform. Instead, they have been directed to submit their applications through the dedicated KMTC Admissions Portal, which is specifically designed to process applications from practising health workers.
The agency emphasized that the two application systems are intended to ensure efficient processing of different categories of applicants while minimizing delays during the placement process.
Applicants have been advised to carefully review the minimum entry requirements for each programme before making their selections. They are also encouraged to verify that their personal information, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results and contact details are correctly captured to avoid complications during placement.
KUCCPS noted that applicants should only choose courses for which they meet the prescribed qualifications, as applications that fail to satisfy the minimum requirements may not be considered.
The Kenya Medical Training College remains the country’s largest institution dedicated to training middle-level healthcare professionals and continues to play a critical role in supplying skilled personnel to both public and private health facilities.
The institution offers a wide range of programmes in fields including nursing, clinical medicine, pharmacy, medical laboratory sciences, radiography, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, community health, public health, orthopaedic and trauma medicine, health records and information management, dental sciences, environmental health, emergency medical services and other specialized healthcare disciplines.
Graduates from KMTC are employed in county referral hospitals, national referral facilities, private hospitals, research institutions, humanitarian organizations, government agencies and international health organizations, making the institution one of the country’s most sought-after training centres.
The opening of the September 2026 intake comes at a time when the government continues to prioritize strengthening Kenya’s healthcare workforce to improve service delivery under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the admission exercise, noting that expanding opportunities for medical training will help bridge the shortage of healthcare workers and improve access to quality healthcare services across the country.
KUCCPS has urged all interested applicants to familiarize themselves with the application guidelines provided on the official portal and ensure they complete every step of the process before the August 11 deadline.
The agency also reminded applicants to regularly monitor the KUCCPS Student Portal and official communication channels for updates regarding application status, placement results and admission instructions.
With applications now underway, thousands of prospective students are expected to compete for places across KMTC’s numerous campuses, as the institution continues to attract learners aspiring to build careers in Kenya’s growing healthcare sector.
