The Kenya National Examinations Council has extended the deadline for uploading Grade 4 and Grade 5 School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores to June 15, 2026, giving schools additional time to submit learner assessment data under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The extension follows concerns that a significant number of primary schools had not completed the upload process by the initial deadline of May 29, 2026.

In a notice to schools, KNEC warned that institutions that fail to submit the required assessment scores by the new deadline could face a penalty of Ksh1,000 per learner, in addition to being subjected to administrative reviews and audits.

The council said the assessments cover key learning areas including Science and Technology, Creative Arts and Sports, and Agriculture, which form part of the continuous assessment framework under CBC.

School heads and teachers have been urged to ensure that all learner scores are uploaded within the stipulated period to avoid sanctions and disruptions to learner records.

KNEC further advised institutions experiencing technical challenges while accessing the Competency-Based Assessment portal to seek immediate assistance from their respective Sub-County Directors of Education.

Schools have also been encouraged to verify all learner records before submission to ensure there are no incomplete entries or missing assessment data.

Additionally, institutions have been asked to retain physical assessment records, including project score sheets and learner portfolios, to facilitate any future verification exercises that may be required by the examinations council.

The extension is expected to provide relief to schools that had encountered delays in data entry and verification while ensuring that assessment records for Grade 4 and Grade 5 learners are accurately captured within the national education system.
