KIM Moves to Contain Crisis After TVETA Orders Nationwide Shutdown

NAIROBI, KENYA — The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) has moved into damage control following a directive by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) ordering the immediate halt of its operations across the country.

The response came during a high-stakes press briefing where KIM Executive Director Muriithi Ndegwa acknowledged the severity of the accreditation crisis that has left thousands of students uncertain about their academic future.

“We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness it deserves,” Dr. Ndegwa said, adding that the institution is reviewing the legal implications of the regulator’s directive.

Earlier, TVETA announced the revocation of KIM’s accreditation, citing widespread regulatory violations, including the use of unlicensed trainers and the offering of unauthorized academic programs across its campuses.

The shutdown has thrown students across multiple branches into limbo, raising concerns over the validity of their qualifications and the continuity of their studies. KIM, a long-standing institution with decades of history in management training, now faces one of the most significant challenges in its existence.

In its initial response, the institute has urged students, alumni, and stakeholders to remain calm as it seeks an urgent resolution with authorities. Management indicated it will engage regulators in consultations aimed at identifying a lawful path forward.

The unfolding situation adds to a tense national backdrop, with the government simultaneously grappling with economic pressures and rolling out youth empowerment programs.

Attention now turns to the Ministry of Education and relevant agencies to determine whether a compromise can be reached to safeguard affected students and salvage the academic calendar.

For now, uncertainty continues to hang over one of Kenya’s most established training institutions as the standoff with regulators develops.
