Kiambu County has recorded its highest-ever Own Source Revenue (OSR) collection since the advent of devolution, generating KSh 6.5 billion during the 2025/2026 financial year.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced the milestone, describing it as a major achievement for the county government and attributing the record revenue to enhanced financial management, digital reforms and improved efficiency in revenue collection.
According to the governor, the county achieved the historic figure without increasing taxes, business permit fees, levies or other charges imposed on residents and investors.
Instead, Wamatangi said the county’s success was driven by the introduction of an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which automated revenue collection processes, enhanced accountability and significantly reduced financial leakages.
He noted that the digital transformation has improved transparency by minimizing manual handling of revenue, enabling the county government to monitor collections in real time while sealing loopholes previously exploited through corruption and inefficiencies.
The governor further revealed that Kiambu’s locally generated revenue has grown steadily since his administration assumed office in 2022, rising from KSh 2.8 billion to the current record of KSh 6.5 billion.
Wamatangi said the increase demonstrates the effectiveness of the county’s reforms and reflects growing compliance among businesses and residents following improvements in service delivery and public financial management.
He added that the additional revenue will enable the county government to increase investment in critical sectors, including healthcare, roads, water, agriculture, education and other development programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management, saying every shilling collected from local revenue would continue to be invested in projects that directly benefit wananchi.
He also pledged to strengthen digital governance systems further to sustain revenue growth while ensuring taxpayers receive efficient, transparent and accountable public services.
The achievement places Kiambu among the leading counties in local revenue generation, highlighting the growing role of technology and sound financial management in strengthening county governments’ ability to finance development independently of national government allocations.
