Kiambu Extends Land Rates Waiver Deadline to June 30

Land and plot owners in Kiambu County have until June 30, 2026, to clear outstanding land rates and enjoy a 100 per cent waiver on accumulated penalties and interest.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s administration extended the amnesty period from the initial May 31 deadline to give property owners more time to settle arrears and regularize their records.

Under the waiver programme, landowners must pay the full outstanding principal amount within the stipulated period to qualify for the cancellation of all accumulated interest and penalties. Those who fail to clear the principal in full before the deadline will not benefit from the amnesty.

The county government has also reduced land rates from 0.25 per cent to 0.15 per cent in a move aimed at easing the burden on residents. In addition, recent amendments under the Kiambu County Valuation (Amendment) Bill abolished land rates on agricultural and freehold land.

To curb fraud, the county government has directed residents to make payments only through official channels. Property owners using M-Pesa are required to use Paybill Number 4162022 and enter their invoice number as the account reference.

Alternatively, payments can be made through Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Kiambu Branch, Account Number 01103715435001.

Residents have been advised to first visit the municipal or sub-county offices where their properties are located and obtain official statements indicating their outstanding balances. After making payments, they are required to present the receipts or deposit slips to county offices to facilitate the updating of records.

The county administration says the exercise is aimed at boosting revenue collection while helping residents clear historical arrears and maintain compliant property records.
