Kenyans have been urged to turn out in large numbers at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday to rally behind the Junior Starlets as they bid to secure qualification for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

The decisive qualifier is expected to draw thousands of football fans, with sports leaders, government officials and football stakeholders calling on supporters to create a vibrant home atmosphere that will inspire the national team as they seek to book their place on the global stage.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has described the fixture as one of the most important matches for women’s football in the country, noting that a strong turnout could provide the young players with the motivation needed to overcome their opponents and achieve another historic milestone.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya encouraged football lovers from across the country to attend the match and demonstrate their support for the rising stars, saying the team has worked hard throughout the qualification campaign and deserves overwhelming backing from the home crowd.

“Our girls have shown determination, discipline and resilience throughout this journey. Let us all come together at Nyayo Stadium and cheer them on as they fight to make history for Kenya,” he said.

The Junior Starlets have impressed throughout the qualification campaign, displaying confidence and tactical discipline while overcoming several tough opponents to move within touching distance of another appearance at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

Football stakeholders believe qualifying for the global tournament would not only elevate Kenya’s profile in international women’s football but also inspire more young girls to pursue the sport and strengthen ongoing efforts to develop football at the grassroots level.

Government officials have also reiterated their commitment to supporting women’s football through increased investment in talent development, improved sporting facilities and enhanced support for national teams.

Fans attending the match have been encouraged to arrive at the stadium early to avoid last-minute congestion and to create an electrifying atmosphere capable of lifting the Junior Starlets during the crucial encounter.

A victory would see Kenya secure qualification for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, marking another significant achievement for the country’s growing women’s football programme and further cementing the Junior Starlets’ place among Africa’s emerging football powerhouses.
