Kenya has found itself at the center of an escalating international health and diplomatic controversy following explosive revelations that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering setting up a quarantine and treatment facility in the country for Americans exposed to Ebola.

The controversial arrangement, now widely being referred to as “Trump’s secret Ebola deal with Kenya,” has triggered anxiety, political debate and public concern after reports emerged suggesting that Americans exposed to the deadly virus could be isolated and treated on Kenyan soil instead of being flown back to the United States.

According to international reports, the proposed facility would mainly handle American citizens evacuated from Ebola-hit regions, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo, as the outbreak in parts of Central and East Africa continues to raise alarm globally.

The proposal marks a major departure from previous US Ebola response strategies, where infected or exposed American citizens were transported back to highly specialized bio-containment facilities within the United States for treatment and monitoring.

Sources familiar with the discussions indicate that the planned quarantine facility could be established in Laikipia at a military-linked site and staffed by officers from the US Public Health Service alongside other American agencies involved in emergency response operations.

The Kenyan government has since confirmed that discussions with Washington regarding Ebola preparedness and international health cooperation are ongoing, although officials have remained cautious about publicly disclosing the full details surrounding the arrangement.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale acknowledged that consultations involving Kenya, the United States and global health agencies are underway as part of broader regional preparedness plans against the deadly virus.

However, the revelations have already sparked concern among sections of the Kenyan public, health experts and political commentators, many of whom are questioning whether Kenya could face additional health and security risks if exposed Ebola patients are brought into the country.

The controversy has also ignited debate internationally, with several American public health experts criticizing the proposal and arguing that the United States already possesses advanced medical infrastructure capable of safely handling Ebola patients domestically.

Some experts further warned that refusing to bring exposed Americans back home could discourage medical volunteers and humanitarian workers from participating in future outbreak response missions in affected African regions.

The Ebola outbreak currently affecting parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda has already alarmed global health authorities after hundreds of suspected deaths and nearly 1,000 possible infections were reported in recent weeks. The World Health Organization has since classified the situation as a major public health emergency.

Reports indicate that the Trump administration’s strategy is partly aimed at preventing Ebola cases from entering the United States altogether. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently stated that America “cannot allow any Ebola cases” into the country.

The White House has defended the proposal, arguing that managing exposed individuals closer to outbreak zones would reduce risks associated with long-distance evacuations while also allowing faster emergency response coordination.

Despite the growing public debate, uncertainty still surrounds whether Kenya has formally approved the arrangement and under what conditions the proposed quarantine facility would operate.

The revelations have now thrust Kenya into a rapidly growing global health and diplomatic storm, with pressure mounting on Nairobi to clarify the country’s exact role in the highly sensitive Ebola containment discussions.
