President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s longstanding partnership with the United Nations, highlighting cooperation in key sectors including climate action, clean energy, and humanitarian support.

Speaking in Nairobi, the President noted that Kenya hosts the only UN headquarters in Africa and the Global South, serving as the base for agencies such as United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat.

“Our relationship with the United Nations is strong and cordial, and we are proactive participants of the global organisation,” he said.

According to the President, the UN has played a key role in supporting Kenya’s development agenda, particularly in green energy financing, water access, and refugee assistance.

“The UN has remained a steadfast ally of Kenya in green energy and financing, making clean water accessible and supporting refugees,” he added.

President Ruto also cited Kenya’s contribution to global peacekeeping missions and its role in advocating for reforms within the UN system, including calls for changes to the Security Council.

The remarks were made during a farewell meeting with Stephen Jackson, whose tour of duty in the country has come to an end.

Ruto commended the outgoing envoy for his service, stating that his tenure had strengthened collaboration between Kenya and the United Nations.

Officials said the engagement reflects ongoing efforts to sustain diplomatic cooperation and advance shared global and national priorities.
