The race for the SISI NI DOLA CUP title intensified on Thursday as Nyundo FC secured a dramatic place in the semi-finals after defeating Nabadda FC 4-2 on penalties in an entertaining quarter-final clash.

Nyundo FC made a dream start to the match, taking the lead in the 4th minute through Joash Ndela, who calmly finished to give his side an early advantage. Nabadda FC responded strongly and found an equalizer in the 21st minute after Ahmed Mohamed accidentally turned the ball into his own net, leaving the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

With neither side able to find a winner in open play, the match was decided through a penalty shootout. Nyundo FC kept their composure from the spot, converting four penalties to seal a 4-2 victory and book their place in the last four.

The standout performer was Nyundo FC goalkeeper Francis Katana, who produced two outstanding penalty saves to guide his team to victory. Katana credited his performance to confidence and concentration during the shootout, saying his preparation helped him make the crucial saves.

The goalkeeper continues to enjoy an outstanding tournament, having now kept four clean sheets, making him one of the competition’s top-performing goalkeepers.

Nyundo FC head coach Swaleh Abdallah “Sunda” admitted the encounter was tougher than expected, praising Nabadda FC for putting up a strong fight.

“It was not an easy match because both teams were well prepared. I congratulate our goalkeeper for his brilliant saves during the penalties. We had prepared for that possibility, and thankfully it worked in our favour,” said Sunda.

The coach added that his team will intensify preparations ahead of the semi-finals as they target a place in the tournament final.

Following the victory, Nyundo FC will now face Green Eagles in what promises to be a thrilling semi-final showdown. Green Eagles reached the last four after a convincing 4-0 victory over Likoni United in the opening quarter-final.

Attention now shifts to Friday’s remaining quarter-final fixture, where Al-Shifaa will battle Mombasa Sports Club for a place in the semi-finals as the SISI NI DOLA CUP continues to gather momentum.
